Welcome to Social Welfare Policy
Welcome to our spring 2026 class of Social Welfare Policy. On this website I am trying to do two important things. The first is to provide you with a map to the syllabus. There are a lot of things going on in this class, and I know that most of you open your syllabus and then go right to the assignments and grades. It’s not that I blame you, but there is a bit more here that I wanted to highlight.
The second is to offer you some direction to complete your Legislative Brief. As you have probably already read or heard, you will be following a bill in the Georgia legislature during this class. Then you will write a paper on that experience. The second page of this site is offering you information, direction and potential contacts to make that experience easier – or at least not quite as difficult.
I realize that long videos are not in at the moment, so I am trying something different. For the syllabus page, I am breaking it up into sections and calling them syllabytes (OK, I couldn’t help myself). They are small, short (at least for me) videos that talk about sections of the syllabus. I use an icon to identify which section in an effort to get your attention, and then I give you a brief description of why you should care. Hopefully this can help you find your way through this class more easily.
The second page of this site is the Legislative brief page. I hope to give you information on each section of the assignment, both in words, and also in video form. I know that everyone learns differently, so some of you may do better with a video and others of you just want to have the darn words! Hopefully both will be helpful to you.
Again – Welcome and I hope this brief and specific site will provide some additional information and guidance.
